Here is a LIST of Lordship Salvation False Gospel Preachers

2 Peter 2:1 (nkjv) But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you…

Ephesians 5:11-12 (nkjv) And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

The fact that certain pastors and preachers are on this list will be shocking to many people.

Finding out that certain of these people teach a false gospel was extremely upsetting to me.

Please know this.

Some of these preachers I loved and listened to for 30 years.

Also, understand that Jesus Himself said that FEW would be SAVED and that there would be MANY FALSE PROPHETS. The Lord Jesus even questioned whether He would find faith on the earth when He returned—not millions and billions of believers and packed churches and stadiums—He questioned whether He would find anyone at all who believed. With all this in mind, please have a look at this list. —Curtis Smale

“”😠 Lordship Salvation False Gospel (LSFG) Preachers:

THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH – Teaches straight-out salvation by human good works. LSFG

AUGUSTINE – Roman Catholic LSFG

THOMAS AQUINAS – Roman Catholic LSFG

Almost All Reformed, Calvinist, Arminian, Presbyterian, Methodist, Wesleyan, Lutheran  (which I grew up in and was a part of for 30 years), and Church of Christ Churches teach Lordship Salvation False Gospel (LSFG).

Please understand that I am not saying that none of these people are saved, just that the official doctrine is a False Gospel.

MARTIN LUTHER – Said he believed in Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Christ Alone for salvation, and then denied this same thing constantly. He added repentance of sins, confession of faith, water baptism, discipleship, Lord’s Supper and church membership as conditions of salvation. False prophet deceiver. LSFG

JOHN CALVIN – Lordship Salvation False Gospel to the core. One of the Fathers of LSFG because of his Perseverance of the Saints False Doctrine (the “P” in TULIP, which teaches salvation by lifetime commitment to discipleship and faithfulness and good works. Murdered Servetus and others who opposed him. LSFG

*CHARLES SPURGEON – Don’t let anyone tell you he did not teach a Lordship Salvation False Gospel. Here is a Clear Lordship Salvation False Gospel quote by Charles Spurgeon:

“If the professed convert deliberately declares that he knows his Lord’s will but does not intend to obey it, you are not to pamper his presumption. Rather it is your duty to assure him that he is not saved. Has not the Lord said, “Whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after Me, cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:27)?” pg 33.
— Charles Spurgeon

Salvation is a free gift received by faith in Christ. Those who believe the Gospel of Christ are eternally saved (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Salvation is not predicated upon someone obeying the Lord‘s will, as Spurgeon says above.

Bearing one’s cross is a condition, as *Jesus* clearly says above, of being a disciple.

Discipleship and salvation are two separate issues.

Salvation is a free gift.

Discipleship certainly is not.

When a preacher or teacher or church conflates salvation with discipleship you end up with salvation by works: Lordship salvation false gospel.  Some say Lordship salvation false gospel has infected up to 99.9% of all churches in America.  —Curtis Smale

This is a quote from the Google book: “THE SOUL WINNER,” page 22…
“Another proof of the conquest of a soul for Christ will be found in a real change of life. If the man does not live differently from what he did before, both at home and abroad, his repentance needs to be repented of, and his conversion is a fiction.”

At the end of the quote above, it is clear that Charles Spurgeon is talking about conversion, that which enables salvation. He is saying that for a person to have eternal life, they must have a real change of life, they must live differently, they must repent of their sins and live right. This is textbook Lordship Salvation False Gospel.

*BILLY GRAHAM – Endlessly preached unbiblical “repenting of sins” and “making a commitment to Christ” and “public confession” for salvation: Lordship “Salvation” False Gospel Preacher.  Of course, half the time he preached the Gospel of Grace, and then took it away by preaching Lordship Salvation False Gospel.

Billy and Franklin Graham teach a false plan of salvation, which is religion at its best and theology at its worst. Here is what the website for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) states concerning how to be saved…

What do I have to do to go to heaven?

God isn’t waiting to judge you. God isn’t waiting to condemn you. He’s waiting to receive you with mercy, with love, with open arms, and forgive all your sins. Will you come to Him? Will you turn from your sin and promise to live for Him? He can transform your life—and you can look forward to eternity with Him in heaven.

SOURCE: http://peacewithgod.net/should-not-perish/

Nowhere in the Bible is a person required to “promise to live for Him” to be saved. Nowhere in the Bible is a person required to “turn from your sin” to be saved. These are unbiblical requirements which Billy Graham has added to the simplicity which is in Christ.

(From David J. Stewart’s website: http://www.jesusisprecious.org/false_doctrine/lordship_salvation/bgea.htm)

FRANKLIN GRAHAM – Same as his father, Billy, same organization. LSFG.

*JOHN MACARTHUR – The undisputed King of modern Lordship Salvation False Gospel teachers.

Pastor John MacArthur of the Grace Community Church has authored a heretical book titled, “HARD TO BELIEVE” in which he errantly teaches…

“Salvation isn’t the result of an intellectual exercise. It comes from a life lived in obedience and service to Christ as revealed in the Scripture; it’s the fruit of actions, not intentions. There’s no room for passive spectators: words without actions are empty and futile…The life we live, not the words we speak, determines our eternal destiny” (Hard to Believe, p. 93). [emphasis added]

If “the life we live” determines our eternal destiny,” (not Jesus’ perfect life, death for all our sins, burial, and resurrection from the dead on the third day),” then salvation is by works!!

Also, John MacArthur mocks the Gospel as an “intellectual exercise.” Jesus did everything for our salvation. All we have to do is believe the Gospel of Jesus. John MacArthur mocks believing in the Gospel and he mocks what Jesus did for us by implying that believing in the Gospel is an ineffective intellectual exercise.

Charles Stanley – Teaches salvation by repentance of sin and a changed life. Put Charles Stanley in the search engine on this blog to see an examination of his False Gospel. LSFG.

R.C. Sproul – Educated LSFG teacher.

John Piper – LSFG to the core.

Paul Washer – LSFG to the core.

Ray Comfort – LSFG to the core.

Kirk Cameron – LSFG, partner of Ray Comfort

Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis ministry: Salvation by discipleship. LSFG.

REPENTING OF SINS IS WORKS!

Jonah 3:10 New American Standard Bible 1995: When God saw their *deeds*, *that they turned from their wicked way*, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it.

Francis Chan – LSFG to the core.

James MacDonald – LSFG

Bob Coy – LSFG

A.W. Tozer – LSFG

Dr. Sinclair Ferguson – Superior, intellectual LSFG

Chuck Missler – LSFG

Albert Mohler – LSFG

Todd Friel, WretchedTV – LSFG to the core.

Alistair Begg – Head of the Lordship Salvation Alliance. LSFG.

Steven Lawson – Lordship Salvation, often on the R.C. Sproul LSFG show.

Greg Laurie – teaches repentance from sin (works) for salvation. LSFG.

John Ankerberg – teaches “following Jesus” as a condition of salvation. LSFG.

Ravi Zacharias – Teaches you don’t have faith or salvation without good works. Here’s proof of that: https://youtu.be/9iusJQvwIDA

Frank Turek – Good apologist for God, creation, etc., but teaches LSFG for salvation.

??? Norman Geisler – Intelligent and unbelievably theologically knowledgeable, but he wrote a book with LSFG Turek. Wikipedia says he is on the side of Biblical Free Grace (the truth), and his Systematic Theology heavily criticizes Lordship Salvation.

Matt Slick – Calvinist Lordship Perseverance False Gospel. LSFG.

*William Lane Craig – Teaches Repentance of sins for salvation False Gospel. He is a great Kalam Argument apologist and debater extraordinaire for God’s existence, the Moral Law, and The Resurrection of Jesus. Very disappointing that he teaches a False Gospel. LSFG.

J.C. Ryle – Search his name on this site for proof in his own words that he is a Lordship Salvation False Gospel preacher. LSFG.

A.W. Pink – LSFG. Quote: “Something more than believing is necessary to salvation.” No, Mr. Pink. Jesus disagrees with you: John 6:47: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who BELIEVES ~HAS~ EVERLASTING LIFE.”

Hank Hanegraaff, The Bible Answer Man — Good answers on a thousand Bible questions, but he gets the most important question wrong: “What must I do to be saved”? His answer is, if you listen to him long enough: Practical Christlikeness. He is a False Gospel Teacher. LSFG.

Hal Lindsey – LSFG.

Rick Warren – LSFG.

Leonard Ravenhill – Strongly, repulsively, LSFG, per his You Tube videos

Jonathan Edwards – LSFG.

James Dobson – LSFG.

Peter J. Kreeft  C.S. Lewis scholar, wonderful writings, inexplicably now a Roman Catholic, maybe once was a true believer and is therefore saved, even though he now is LSFG.

Bob Wilkin and Grace Evangelical Society – The Crossless Gospel, Death-less, Resurrection-less False Gospel.

Wilkin’s Gospel is the Most Deceptive False Gospel I have ever found. He teaches that Jesus said in John 6:47 that if you believe in Jesus, you have everlasting life: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes (in Me) has everlasting life.” This is true. Jesus is saying that we are saved (have eternal life) if we believe in Him, and of course, we are.

The question is, who is Jesus? He is the God-man. What did He do for our salvation? He died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures. (1st Corinthians 15:1-4)

Bob Wilkin and Grace Evangelical Society have a False Gospel emptied of the truth and Gospel power of what Jesus did for us in His death and resurrection. If a person believed that they were saved only because someone named Jesus said they were saved if they believed in Him, then they may not be saved. Why? Why is this so important?

If a person believes that a guy named “Jesus” promises him eternal life, then he is saved, according to Wilkin and the GES. This is what they call the “message of life.” Well, if it is true that you can be saved by believing this promise, without content, then it is also true that a person who believed the “message of life” could reject Jesus’ claim to be God and man. A person believing the “message of life” could also reject Jesus’ death for his sins and His resurrection—and still be saved.

No. People who believe, or who have believed the Gospel, are saved. People who reject the Gospel, and never believe it, are damned.

*Also, Bob Wilkin specifically teaches that a person CANNOT get eternal life from believing the Gospel,* (!) but will be saved only if he believes in the “promise of life,” or the “message of life” given in verses such as John 6:47. This teaching of Wilkin and Grace Evangelical Society is in direct contradiction to the teaching of the Bible. This is why Bob Wilkin is a heretic and a False Gospel teacher.

People who believe what he believes could believe in a false Christ, or believe a false Gospel (both are possibilities the New Testament warns us about.)

Also, eternal life is a RESULT of believing the Gospel, of believing in the Person and Work of Christ. Eternal life is NOT PART of the Gospel.

I was originally attracted to Bob’s work because of his refutations of Lordship Salvation False Gospel.

Here are a few Bible verses that shut down Wilkin and the GES’ “Christ’s Death for sins-less and Resurrection-less False Gospel.” (We ARE eternally saved by belief in the Gospel of Christ, justified by Jesus’ Blood, saved by Jesus’ Cross, saved by Jesus’ Death, and Jesus’ Resurrection):

GOSPEL: Romans 1:16  — For I am not ashamed of the GOSPEL OF CHRIST: for it is the THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION to every one that BELIEVES; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

BLOOD: Romans 5:9 — Much more then, being now JUSTIFIED BY HIS BLOOD, we shall be SAVED from wrath through him.

CROSS: 1st Corinthians 1:18 — For the preaching of the CROSS is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which ARE SAVED it is the power of God.

DEATH: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 — Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you THE GOSPEL which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are SAVED, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have BELIEVED in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ DIED for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he ROSE AGAIN the third day according to the scriptures.

RESURRECTION: Romans 10:9 — That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt BELIEVE in thine heart that God hath RAISED him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED.

Jack Chick Tracts – LSFG, their evangelistic tracts teach that repentance from sins and following Jesus are conditions for salvation

Moody – repentance of sins for salvation, discipleship for salvation, Lordship Salvation False Gospel

Calvary Chapel – LSFG. I talked in person to pastor Eric Cartier of Rocky Mountain Calvary for two hours about his Youth Pastor who preached explicit works salvation to his congregation. He backed the youth pastor and refused to be clear on the Gospel.

Some of these guys might have believed in Jesus for salvation in the past (and so they would be saved and indwelled by the Holy Spirit), they may have taught the Biblical Gospel of Grace in the past, but currently they teach a False Gospel, or the Biblical Gospel of Grace and then also a False Gospel, alternating back and forth. Some are very suspect because of the writing partners or the people they theologically associate with or endorse.

The NIV Bible is a beautiful English translation, but many crucial verses, which were mistranslated, preach Lordship Salvation False Gospel.

Most megachurches and Christian radio stations and Christian bookstores preach and teach LSFG.

Of course, all of the following religions teach their own version of a False Gospel of Salvation by Good Works: Latter Day Saints/Mormon, Jehovah’s Witness, Seventh Day Adventist, Church of Christ, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Occult, Atheist, Agnostic, Humanism, Scientism, Spiritualism, and all non-Free Grace “Christian” churches teach their own version of a False Gospel of Salvation by Good Works: “I’m a good person, worthy of Heaven, because I do these good things, because I do these rituals or obey these laws, or because I meditate long enough, or because I am kind and loving.”

This list is not comprehensive. Obviously, there are thousands more prosperity preachers and false prophets. That list would be so long that many less obvious names would be lost in the deluge, so I have not included them here.

There are only two faiths: “Jesus is my Savior, I believe in the Gospel of 1 Corinthians 15:1-4,” or: “I am a good person because of the good works I do.”

Our sins prove we are not, by nature, good people in the sight of God.  We are all in desperate need of the forgiveness and salvation of Jesus Christ.

*David J. Stewart (Jesus Is Savior, online) Get-to-the-point Valuable. Loudly Anti LS, clearly Pro-Grace.

*Renee Roland – A woman, but not a pastor. Extremely Valuable for explaining the Gospel on YouTube, exposing False Gospel Preachers, and dealing with doubts over assurance of salvation, unbelievably good insights, deals with emotional concerns with grace and humility, extremely good on questions about Bible verses. The best I have ever seen on these things. Filled with the Holy Spirit and outspoken on critical issues. She has her own Videos section on the blog you are reading now.

Ken Boa – Gracious, very intelligent, knowledgeable, very educated grace teacher.

Curtis Hutson – Anti-Lordship Salvation False Gospel preacher from yesteryear.

Curtis Smale – I believe in the Biblical Free Gift Grace of God unto Salvation by a Moment of Faith in Jesus, according to the Bible (John 6:47). I believe in Jesus Christ, true God and true man, the holy and sinless Savior, who was crucified, shed His blood, died on the cross for all of the sins of everyone according to the Scriptures, including all of mine, was buried, and rose again from the dead on the third day, according to the Scriptures. (1st Corinthians 15:1-4, all four Gospels, and the entire New Testament.)

God gives eternal life, and gives the assurance of it, to everyone who believes in Him, through a moment of faith in Jesus (John 6:47).

I am loudly and strongly anti-Lordship Salvation False Gospel, anti-Salvation by Repentance of Sins, anti-Salvation by Discipleship, anti-Human Good Works for Salvation, and anti-Calvinism.

Hopefully and prayerfuly, I am becoming more and more a gracious believer and liver and teacher and preacher of the Biblical Gospel of Free Grace. I believe in Jesus Christ as my Savior from all of my sins, Justification by faith in Jesus, Jesus is my Savior from sin, my Savior from eternal death (and my Savior from my bodily human death through the resurrection of my body to a glorious body) and my Savior from Hell.

My favorite Bible verses and Bible doctrines are: John 3:16, John 3:36, John 6:47, 1st Corinthians 15:1-4, Ephesians 1:13,14, Galatians 1:6-9, God’s Grace, Eternal Security, the believer’s identity in Christ as a child of God, spiritual baptism into the Death and Resurrection of Christ at the moment of saving faith, God is Love, Jesus is my Salvation, and Jesus is my Sanctification, God is my Father, the Holy Spirit indwells me, and His Word is a light to my mind.

I love God, and I love people, because God loved me first. God has enabled me to forgive. I believe that I will live in Heaven with Jesus and live on the New Earth united with Heaven, with a glorified immortal body, because of the promises in the Bible. This is my destiny.

I have communion with God’s Spirit in my spirit. This communion with God is the most satisfying, peaceful, loving, warm, and joyful thing I have ever experienced.

Jesus is my Savior, forgiver, healer, provider, and the divine lover of my soul. Thank you forever, Lord Jesus! Amen. —Curtis Smale

*C.S. Lewis – Not strong on justification, and had some heretical beliefs, like infant water baptism regeneration, purgatory, and possibly some of his writings could be construed to teach the loss of salvation. His understanding evolved over time. Made many explicit Biblical Gospel of Grace statements— C.S. Lewis was strong on the Grace of God. Wonderful, warm, knowledgeable, intelligent, gracious, at times quite fierce, and insightful writer. Absolutely brilliant and learned beyond any non-Bible author on this page. My favorite prose writer of all time. “Mere Christianity” is my favorite non-Bible book. Good on basic truths and deep insights, but definitely not the best Biblical Free Grace theologian. Unbelievably Valuable for so many reasons, even if he were LSFG, which I pray with all my soul and hope he was not, and do not think he was.

*John Lennox ? Great apologist for basic Christian beliefs, LS or not.

It is likely I have made some mistakes here, on one side or the other. Please let me know if you disagree with my placement of any of these preachers or organizations into any of these classifications, and I may consider changing them. Thanks.

Curtis Smale

The biggest false teachers/preachers/churches are: the Roman Catholic Church (some within this church are saved, if they believe in Jesus’ Gospel alone without relying on any of their own good works), The Lutheran Church (which I grew up in), (and almost all Reformed and Calvinist Churches), Billy Graham, John MacArthur, and John Piper.

There are many, MANY other False Gospel Teachers who teach that SALVATION comes by ~repenting from sins~ and a ~commitment~ to ~lifelong discipleship~ or ~public confession of faith~ or ~water baptism~ or ~discipleship~ or anything  that is added to the finished work of Christ in his death for our sins and his resurrection. These all teach WORKS RIGHTEOUSNESS salvation. But the Bible says that salvation is a FREE GIFT received through faith in Jesus.

People think these churches and preachers are conservative and respectable, but they are deadly. Jesus said: “*MANY* false prophets will appear and DECEIVE *MANY* PEOPLE.” (Jesus, in Matthew 24:11), and Paul the apostle, in Galatians chapter one, puts -two- curses on anyone who preaches a False Gospel.

Lordship Salvation is a False Gospel because it teaches repentance from your sins, discipleship, and persevering in good works as necessary for your salvation.

The Gospel is found in 1st Corinthians 15:1-4: “Now, brothers, I want to remind you of THE GOSPEL I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this Gospel you are SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of FIRST IMPORTANCE: that

Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…”

Notice that there is no mention of repentance of sins or water baptism, or discipleship included as the way to be saved. These are NOT part of the saving Gospel.

The Bible clearly says that salvation is “not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:9)

Everyone who believes in Jesus alone, without simultaneously relying on his or her good works to be saved, has everlasting life. (John 6:47: Most assuredly, I say to you, he [or she] who believes HAS everlasting life.”)

  1. Hello Curtis,

I’m response to “where does it say that believers must show signs of life,” in those exact words, nowhere, but the essence is in several places, most notably:

    James 2:14-26
    Faith Without Works Is Dead
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without [a]your works, and I will show you my faith by [b]my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is [c]dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made [d]perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was [e]accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Focus on vs 17 and 26. These are not my words, this is the Apostle.

Please understand the difference between necessary works and meritorious works. Meritorious works are what people do to be saved ( that’s a heresy). NEVERTHELESS, there are works that need to be present as evidence of the Spirit of God working on a person. If that evidence is not there, then the Spirit of God is not there, because the Spirit of God will always make itself seen.

    • John 4: 13-15. Jesus confirms to the woman at the well that it only takes one drink to be saved, and the one drink is everlasting. The woman confirms what Jesus said, by telling Jesus to give her that one drink, so she would not have to draw from Jacob’s well repeatedely. Did Jesus lie to the woman? If he did, then how do we trust what Jesus said in other verses in the Bible? No, it takes one drink, for one moment, to be saved eternally. Jesus does not lie. Why cannot people see this truth?

    • I’ve always believed Jesus died for my sins and was resurrected. I was raised Catholic. I had chronic dreams of the Devil because of that as a child. Some how I always knew there was NO WAY this man could forgive my sins! I ALWAYS knew that I go directly to GOD. I guess God told me as a child. After confession and pennance, I felt NOTHING in my spirit. I was tormented by possession by the devil or a demon in my dreams. He’s the color of the sun. Because of this, I left the church and ran from God hell bent on self-destruction for years, because I thought God hated me. I didn’t want to read the Bible. I didn’t want to believe in hell. It was too scary. A few years ago, something told me, maybe you aren’t saved if you ignore the Bible. A few years ago, I started into it and I’v been questioning my own salvation ever since. From reading your thread, I’m understanding that I don’t understand the context of what I’m reading because I’m questioning my own salvation after reading the bible. Sounds to me like someone was self-taught and started teaching others his mistakes and they became teachers or someone was self-taught and decided he understood the Bible well enough to start teaching it. I think a lot of it is unintentional. I’m not sure how much intent will play in our judgment of teaching falseness. I can see here that self-taught teachers are most likely going to get it wrong. I can’t see how any true believer who wants to respect Jesus would intentionally mislead people. Only God knows that, but I do believe that a lot of this is going on. I feel way better after reading this thread. My belief has always been Strong, even when I was at my worst. I didn’t want to read the Bible because I didn’t want to feel damned, so I started reading the Bible and started feeling Damned. How iRONic is that? I used to go by Ronny (Irony). I believe God put this on me because so many people are confused, like the ones who keep arguing. I think he wants me to help clear this up. (I think their hearts are correct, but their understanding is not.

      • Hi, Ron. Eternal salvation is so easy to receive: believe in Jesus and you have eternal life: First Corinthians 15 1 to 4 says that if you believe the gospel you are saved. but the Bible warns us very strictly not to add anything to what Jesus has done: not confession of sins, not confession of faith, not commitment to Christ, not repentance of sins, not love, not water baptism, not Lord’s Supper, not church membership, not good works, not circumcision, not anything! Personally the only verses in the Bible to give me assurance of salvation are 1st Corinthians 15:1 to 4, John 647 John 316 John 336

    • Hopefully you will consider John Ankerberg and Hal Lendsey. I have not listened to John lately but it seems to me he had a discussion about salvation which is by Christ alone and Christ salvation work on the cross alone.

As for Hal Lendsey I know he came from a Church that taught salvation by faith alone in Christ alone. So you should reconsider him. His program now is more on prophecy than anything else so I stopped watching him.

John Lennox should not be on that list other than he one the best defenders of Christianity that I have seen. He gave an example of free grace when he debated Peter Atkens toward the end and the difference between Christianity and all the other religions by saying the other religions are merit based while Christianity is not. He gave another great example during that debate that was good.

At about the 58 minute mark they started the the questions and the first question was “what would it take to change your mind”. Peter Atkens said nothing would change his mind and even said that if he saw the resurrection he would consider it as a hallucination.
Immediately Lazarus and the rich man came to mind. Once your soul is so hardened it is almost impossible to reach them with the Gospel.

  2. I was a minister in the churches of Christ for 25 years and grew up in that faith system. It literally took years and years to weed out various false theologies out of my system. I am now totally convinced that the answer given by Paul and Silas in answer to the question, “What must I do to be saved?” is spot on (Acts 16:30-31). It’s believing in Jesus, i.e. trusting in the Son of God to save us, and nothing else. All glory goes to Him for our salvation. There is no work we can do better. There is no way we can be more sinless, There is no way we can make a better sacrifice for sin. It’s just an all-out trust in the Son of God and NOTHING else.

  3. I enjoyed reading the article on true salvation. When I got saved 26 yrs ago and filled with the Holy Spirit I never had any doubts of my salvation. Not until 2007 or so did I question my salvation. When I began to watch these “visitations” of hell videos on you tube I began to be very fearful and had much condemnation. I have never completely stopped sinning, I confess my sins of the flesh everyday. In Jeremiah 33:3 it says ” Call on Me and I will answer and show you great and mighty things which you do not know” So I did that in desperation , and like I had prayed that prayer before, God was faithful in answering me. Not long after stumbled upon Renee Roland and “Yankee” Arnold on you tube and I was set free from my fear of loss of salvation and have complete peace and rest in Yeshua my Lord and my God. Thank you for preaching the truth about salvation. Now someone needs to teach discipleship after receiving salvation ….

    • This is by far my most popular article. I agree about needing to find good teachers to teach discipleship, but we do have Jesus, we have His word, the Spirit in our spirit. It comes down to obeying and praying and following his guidance on things whether it be giving, helping, praying. I am going to focus on spiritual life more often on this website. Check out Andrew Murray and Watchman Nee. I would say those are probably the best authors I have ever come across for discipleship.

You need some revelation of the finished work of the cross to FULLY understand salvation, holiness, righteousness. As I once did, you are listening to lordship salvation preachers. Our entrance into heaven is not dependent upon anything WE do. If you believe that, you need to unlearn it cause its NOT the gospel but a curse.

I lived in so much fear, depression, and uncertainty for years “trying” to be sinless and holy. IN Jeremiah 33:3 it says call out to Me and I will answer and show you great things which you do not know. And I did, and He made me free from the bondage I was in. 4. I would like to add to my comment. I see a lot of people disagreeing with what salvation is or isn’t. Salvation is a one time event. So if we are truly born again, wouldn’t it be fair to say that since we have a new heart that it is the Holy Spirit that convicts us of sin? Don’t we have a change of heart to WANT to please God, to love Him, love others ? The “evidence” so many seem to be concerned about in “proving our salvation comes as a byproduct of God’s love and Spirit inside us. One born again son/daughter will be led BY the Spirit of God AFTER the salvation event. The steps of a righteous man will be led by the Lord.. But we do not fulfill requirements to be born again. We cannot earn salvation, God’s love, nor be removed from the book of life. Why do people NOT get this?

    Liked by 1 person

    • I don’t know why people don’t get this, either. I think that the flesh offers a lot of pleasure and sin offers pleasure and people just simply go for that instead of following God. Salvation is free, discipleship is not. People don’t want to put the effort in to follow God, they don’t seek God, they don’t follow the Spirit in their spirit. I was just asking this very question today on FB messenger. Friend me there, and I will add you to the list if you want. You seem to be seeking in the same way that I am seeking.

Why does it seem that “child of God” is a small part of their identity? Why does it seem they do not live in the love of God and are not sure of their salvation? Why does it seem most of the Christians I know just want to argue doctrine with me, as if that were the totality of their spirituality? Why?

People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. 45A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

    The Wise and Foolish Builders

46“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

Italian name! Thanks for your question. From everything I have heard, David Jeremiah is one of the good guys—he has a biblical saving Gospel. I thank God for him, and also I thank God for Chuck Swindoll. But these guys are getting very old. And there are VERY few preachers with the true Gospel, preaching 1st Corinthians 15:1-4, without the believer’s good works, for eternal, irrevocable salvation. We need pray for young guys to get on the radio and preach the Simple Gospel of God’s Grace! Here is what I found about the salvation teaching of David Jeremiah: Eternal salvation from sin, death and hell is the free gift of God’s grace, and is based solely upon man’s personal faith and belief in Jesus Christ. He voluntarily died as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins and arose bodily from the dead, thus guaranteeing our own resurrection to eternal life. This salvation is not received by, nor based on, any sacrament, merit, or good work on our part. This one who receives Christ’s salvation is eternally secure. (John 1:11-13, 3:16, 5:24, 10:28-30, 14:6; Acts 16:31; Romans 3:23-26, 5:8, 6:23, 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5; Hebrews 7:24-25; I Peter 1:18-19, I John 5:11-13)

  8. Spurgeon here is clearly saying that if you do not live differently (works!!) after you believe, then you are not saved. This is salvation by works, discipleship salvation, Lordship salvation, False Gospel, whatever you wanna call it, it is not salvation by faith. Salvation by faith is realizing that you are irrevocably and eternally saved because of what Christ did, not having anything whatsoever to do with what you do or don’t do, or did, or will do. It ain’t about YOU. Spurgeon’s quote is a lie from the pit of Hell. He was certainly a Lordship Salvationist.

Paul said, “confess your sins to one another.” Will Moses and Abraham be in Heaven? The unsaved people in Jude and 2 Peter were UNBELIEVERS. Living by faith and grace in the love of God and your identity in Christ and doing good works is a great thing. Living in sin and living like the devil is a horrible evil sinful thing. But salvation is NOT by repentance of sins, by discipleship, by water baptism, by doing good things, by obeying all the rules, or by being loving. Salvation is by faith in Jesus dying on the cross for all your sins, being buried, and rising again from death on the third day, according to the Scriptures. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.

You made that up, or someone, probably a Reformed denomination, taught that to you (I know, I was in Lutheranism for 30 years.) The Bible actually says that salvation is ~not of works~, lest any man (you) should boast. James says faith without works is dead or useless ~to others~ who need the help of your practical faith. Helping a starving guy has nothing to do with your eternal destiny. And any faith that is dead was once alive. And while it was alive, even for a moment, the believer was eternally saved, born again, forgiven of all sins past, present and future, irrevocably destined for Heaven, made a holy child of God, crucified and risen with Christ, and indwelled by the Holy Spirit. Do you think your good works can add to Jesus’ finished work on the cross and to His resurrection?

      • Steven, I have spent one year studying this issue and over 13 years thinking about it, having conversations about it, and defending it. I have studied every relevant Scripture verse. I took 14 years of formal language studies in Latin, German, biblical Greek and biblical Hebrew. I have prayed about it. I have asked for the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit. I have read all sides of the argument.

The spiritually fatal mistake most “Christians” make is wrongly seeing discipleship verses as salvation verses. They do not rightly divide the Word. I think they do this out of a desire to justify themselves. This results in believing in salvation by works—and eternal damnation for those who never believe in Christ alone.

Of course, unrepentant sinning is never God’s will. But unrepentant sinning is not a salvation issue. Salvation is an eternal and irrevocable gift.

Salvation is not of works, either before or after the moment of saving faith.

Believe in Jesus alone for salvation.

If you live by grace, faith, your identity in Christ, as a loved child of God, you will produce good works. More than that, you will live as a holy person in Christ. If you live from that justification and sanctification, and by that holy identity on Christ and by that Spirit, you will radiate God’s love and grace.

But no good works of man add to Christ’s finished work.

And all sins, even future unrepented willful sins, are washed away forever, in the moment of belief. There may be be chastisement, lack of peace, and a loss of heavenly rewards for not doing good. But the unrepentant sinner WILL be saved.

The unrepentant one who is NOT saved is the person who does not repent of his unbelief in Jesus.

Those in Jesus’ story who came to Jesus with their “wonderful works” were told by Jesus, “Depart from me,” and thrown into eternal torment. They thought salvation was to be gotten by believing in Jesus, plus their good works. They will burn in Hell forever, as you will, if you do not repent of your self-righteous unbelief and instead believe in Jesus. Jesus-plus-Steven’s-good-works is not the way of salvation. Salvation is not received by your good works.

Salvation is not of works, either before or after the moment of belief.

Jesus’ sacrifice and righteousness do not need your help. The Bible says salvation is NOT by your good works. The Bible says those who come to Him with their good works for entrance into Heaven will be told to depart from Jesus. Galatians 1 says that those who preach faith in Jesus plus works are doubly anathema cursed.

Salvation is not by Jesus’ Gospel plus your good works.

Salvation, eternal life, and Heaven as a destiny is eternally and irrevocably received in a moment of faith in Jesus, the holy and sinless God-man, who died for all your sins past, present, and future, who was buried, and who rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures.

No matter what they do or do not do after the moment of faith,

those who believe this Gospel are eternally and irrevocably saved.

The Bible, however, makes it clear that only sins that have been repented of and confessed will be forgiven (cf. Luke 13:3, 5; 17:3-4; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 1 John 1:9). In other words, only our former sins are forgiven (Rom. 3:21-25; 2 Pet. 1:9).

        Consider also 1 John 2:1-2:

“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.”

Methinks that if the sins which we haven’t even committed yet are already forgiven, then our advocate, Jesus Christ the righteous, is in the ranks of the unemployed. Tozer even dared to call the teaching that future, unconfessed sins are already forgiven “heresy”.

      • This kind of thing, where a man can live in complete contradiction to the character of the gospel and yet still believe himself to be a Christian, is only possible because of a doctrine that is downright false. There is absolutely no point in all of Scripture where mere confession of belief warrants a free ticket to heaven no matter what one does in this life. You can ask Jesus into your heart 8 million times, but if you live the kind of life described above, you need to know that you are not a Christian.

This is what I find so problematic about the doctrine of Once Saved Always Saved. It throws the entire gospel under the bus of the human need for security, however false that security may be. It offers certitude where none should be offered. It allows us to live how we want to live without demanding any conformity to the image of Christ, any growth in holiness, any perseverance.

And if you want me to be more exegetical about it, more biblical in my reference, then let me point out that this article about Robert Dear describes a man who lives entirely contrary to Jesus’ teachings in the Sermon on the Mount. A man who “constantly criticizes everyone around him and is very hard to please” falls outside the bounds of Jesus’ call to “judge not” in Matthew 7. A man who “spends a lot of time planning revenge” hardly seems like the kind of person who could “turn the other cheek” or fulfill Jesus call to “love your enemies” in reflection of God’s love for his enemies in Matthew 6. A man who “erupts into fury in seconds” could hardly claim to follow the Jesus who warns us sternly in Matthew 6 about the relationship between anger and murder. A man who is divorced multiple times (because of his abuse of women) would also stand in violation of Matthew 6’s injunctions against divorce that is driven by a dehumanization of women. A man who cheats on multiple wives, even likely rapes a woman, can hardly be within the bounds of Jesus’ ethic of refusing lust so as to avoid adultery.

And to tie it all together, let me finally say that it was Jesus, himself, who said that there will be many who say to Him, “Lord, Lord” and he will say, “Depart from me, I never knew you.” And the difference between those who knew him and those who did not was simply a matter, not of faith or confession or creed, but of fruit and character.

Repentance does not mean that a Christian can’t genuinely struggle with sin. But there’s a difference between struggling and diving head first into sin, which shows that someone is a false convert.

    • The repentance that has anything to do with salvation has nothing whatsoever to do with repenting of sin (which would be attempted salvation by good works). certainly, we must acknowledge that we are sinners, otherwise what are we being saved from? what we are repenting from for salvation is unbelief in Jesus.

      • NO, IT IS NOT. We must obey God and believe the Gospel, that is true, but do not try to change the meaning of “believe” into, “Do works of obedience.” If a person is saved by obedience, he is saved by good works—but there is no such salvation in the Bible. people who believe this will go to Hell. Here you can clearly see that no matter who is right or wrong, you or me, one or the other of us if we were to die right now and this is what we believe, will be going to Hell. let’s at least agree that we have different faiths entirely.

      • yes this is your religion….n Christianity, an antinomian is one who takes the principle of salvation by faith and divine grace to the point of asserting that the saved are not bound to follow the moral law contained in the Ten Commandments.[2][3] The distinction between antinomian and other Christian views on moral law is that antinomians believe that obedience to the law is motivated by an internal principle flowing from belief rather than from any external compulsion.[4]

Examples of antinomians being confronted by the religious establishment include Martin Luther’s critique of antinomianism and the Antinomian Controversy of the seventeenth-century Massachusetts Bay Colony. In the Lutheran Churches and Methodist Churches, antinomianism is considered a heresy.[5We are justified by faith alone but not by a faith that is alone,” in contrast to rejecting moral constraint.[10]

The term antinomianism was coined by Martin Luther during the Reformation to criticize extreme interpretations of the new Lutheran soteriology.[11] In the 18th century, John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist tradition, severely attacked antinomianism.[12]

Many Christians give lip service to the fact they live in the New Covenant.

The truth however is that because they fail to realise they are no longer under the law they are really still living in an Old Covenant reality.

I believe that I am not under law, as Scripture says, but I live by grace, faith, my identity in Christ, and by the Holy Spirit in my spirit. It is God’s will that I repent of my sins (though not for salvation) and that I do good works (but not for salvation). is it not plainly clear that these are all true correct right and biblical things and that yet you are advocating repentance of sins and good works for the procurement of salvation, therefore teaching salvation by works, which is what gets people damned. is this not patently clear to you?

These moral laws, as opposed to civil or ceremonial laws, are derivative of what St. Paul indirectly refers to as natural law (Rom. 2.14–15). Mosaic law has authority only insofar as it reflects the commands of Christ and the natural law. Christian sects and theologians who believe that they are freed from more moral constraint than is customary are often called “antinomian” by their critics. Thus, classic Methodist commentator Adam Clarke held, “The Gospel proclaims liberty from the ceremonial law, but binds you still faster under the moral law. To be freed from the ceremonial law is the Gospel liberty; to pretend freedom from the moral law is Antinomianism.”[13]REPENT!!!

  16. I see there is some confusion over the idea and definition of Repentance. Repentance doesn’t mean “Stop Sinning”, Repentance is a “Change of Mind”, “Feeling sorry for something”, or “Turning direction”. God in the OT repented. Now none of us can say God ever sinned right? No. Now I would like to know everyone’s thoughts on what it means to be “Born Again”? Because since we are of sinful nature.. repenting believing in Christ and his imputation of the HS makes us born again? Or… a changed life, radical departure, (showing good works) makes us born again? Not that works save us, but that works show a true saving faith. As opposed to living like the world with no practical change. Thx! John 6:28-29 28 Then they inquired, “What must we do to perform the works of God?” 29 Jesus replied, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.”…Much love to you all from NY!

    • John MacArthur teaches a Pseudo Catholicism that considers someone saved if they live a life that tends to evidence good works in conjunction with their faith. The problem with this is that it is never quantified. Christ’s work is complete. MacArthur also mixes Justification with Sanctification and creates a confusing, hopeless doctrine. He does a lot of this by confusing the Gospel to Israel with the Gospel to the Gentiles.

  22. Hello all, I’m Greg. Middle aged divorcee, born a gentile to an atheist family, born again as loved by God because of the price he paid for me, most certainly not (as though it needs to be said!) by my righteous life.

Thank you Curtis for the discussion and clear, repeated presentation of something which should be so simple.

I never would have fallen in love with my father if I had thought that his love was temporary, or if I felt he was holding things against me, so that he would ultimately reject me. I didn’t even realize how badly I behaved until I became acquainted with the word of God. But the gospel was preached to me, and I was told that I had passed from death to life, and that I was on the winning team, and that I was safe. I was filled with joy! And love for my loving father! Is wanting to walk in step with him a work? Of course not. Do I do it perfectly…no. Do you (all y’all)? No.

Have you plucked out your eye lately? Have you resisted to the shedding of your blood? What if you don’t realize you’ve sinned, does God overlook it? Does the breaking of God’s law require death? Whose death? Could it be the death of God himself as the only acceptable sacrifice? Does the righteous requirement of the law, now, since God was tortured cursed and murdered for us, become satisfied when you apologize, feel bad and say you’ll change? What happens when you sin again, are you a lying hypocrite destined for hell? Or do you just say sorry and hopelessly try again to be acceptable, knowing that you are a disgusting wretched detestable failure? Isn’t that a license to sin? Is that why Jesus died for us? In short, do you KNOW YOU ARE LOVED AND SAVED FOREVER? DO YOU HAVE PEACE WITH YOUR GOD? If you don’t, you need to trust in Jesus. He loves you… even you. There is salvation in no other, not even your own efforts.

    • Curtis Smale denies the gospel and peddles an antinomian view which lacks the fruit of the Spirit. He says I’ll show you my faith without any works” (James 2:14–26) and also denies that the gift of repentance is a work of the Spirit through Christ in all those who believe (Matthew 24:13, Mark 1:15, Ephesians 2:8), and further proves his point by pretending that a thorn bush can bear figs (Luke 6:44, Matthew 7:16). Curtis is a liar and a false teacher who is being used by the devil to lead as many people astray as possible (2 Timothy 3:6).

His only interested is in “being right” to justify the sin in his heart, and hopes that if enough people believe this false gospel he may join hand in hand and enter paradise, but he will be the one saying “Lord, Lord,” and will hear “depart from me, you worker of evil.” (Matthew 7:21). If a true believer reads this, please pray for this lost soul to repent of their wicked ways, accept Christ as Lord and show the fruit of that conversion by no longer leading the weak astray.

    • Hi, Frank. Thank you for your comment. I disagree, because all of these false teachers believe in salvation by faith plus works, whereas the Bible calls salvation a free gift, received by a moment of faith in Jesus.

I think the main reason a lot of people think that the people on the false teacher a list are biblical is that, of course, the things they’re saying are true if you would apply them to discipleship and not to salvation.

when you combine discipleship and with salvation, you get Salvation by Works of Discipleship.

Also, if you look at Galatians chapter 1, it clearly says that anyone who adds to the Gospel of Jesus is anathema-cursed by God.

I am simply stating and repeating exactly what the Bible says in first Corinthians 15 1 to 4; John 316; and John 647.

of course, after a person is immediately, eternally and irrevocably saved through a moment of faith, a lifetime of faith and love and obedience and repentance of sins is the will of the indwelling Spirit of God.

  26. Hello,

I truly appreciate the fact that you’re posting articles like these to combat the Lordship Salvation epidemic. As much as I always have the lingering fear that the Lordship teachers may be correct and having that shock at the end of time (as I have a history of fighting my folks’ advice and finding they were ultimately right), I still lean towards Free Grace teachings like yours, Ron Shea and others. To be honest, I have a lot of bitterness due to the difficulties and pain of life, especially in light of COVID, twisted politics, and more. So I’ve been living with certain sinful habits, along with holding sinful attitudes that I feel aren’t too bad. Granted, I feel I have accepted Christ, knowing that no good works can save us. But since these false teachers’ teachings (especially John Piper, John MacArthur, Tim Conway and Paul Washer) are everywhere, I feel as if I’m condemned for not wanting to abandon my sins themselves. Whereas Jesus promised that all who believed on him (or came to), he wouldn’t cast out (Gospel of John, don’t remember where). And that salvation is totally free and unmerited, so naturally no conditions other than taking the gift can be attached (Ephesians 2:8-9). Apologies for the ramble; I’ve just never felt so strongly about something causing so much anguish. And I’m fairly young and out of college, and unfortunately traumatized by having been in Chi Alpha campus ministries, who seem to hold to a Lordship viewpoint in terms of salvation and all. So finding places like this is like coming to a spiritual safe haven.

Have you ever considered adding Illbehonest (media ministry of Grace Community Church in San Antonio), Fritz Chery of Bible Reasons and Got Questions? The latter one parrots MacArthur’s definition and points on his church site and explicitly supports it in their article “What is Lordship Salvation?” Not to mention, you’ve spoken out against their article defining the narrow way as a path of self-denial. Using their logic, salvation is no different than any other world religion: it’s up to YOU, not Someone who did something for you, to be saved. The first example (Illbehonest) champions it through several video resources under the category “Lordship”, and the second constantly quotes people like Washer and automatically labels people living unchanged lives with no new desires for God false converts in an impassioned, but judgmental tone. I thought these suggestions might help your site and make you more aware of other false teaching propagators. Thank you!

Your perspective really does bring a balance to all these Bible topics, particularly salvation. Cause it’s supposed to be so simple, but then we have these so-called great teachers convolute and complicate it. From their definitions of repentance (ie, turn from all your sins) and believe (specfically make a full commitment to Christ, that if you can’t keep it, you were never his in the first place), they make true Christianity no different than a cult. So much emphasis on do or be willing to do, rather than “Done!” So sad that Billy Graham mentioned that on his site (“Do” vs. “Done!”), but teaches a Lordship gospel.

  29. I think we all have times when we wonder “who is right?” when it comes to salvation. We all doubt our salvation sometimes. I see hundreds of verses that back Curtis, and a handful that scares me. I do believe Curtis is teaching the truth.

John the Apostle says we can know we are saved. Saved by grace is the only formula that assures us of our salvation. Otherwise, we will “draw from the well repeatedly”, trying to convince ourselves (and God) that we have met the standard, and finally filled the water bucket with enough good deeds to give us that eternal life promised to the Samarian woman at Jacob ‘s well.

Those who teach LS cannot provide the ” list” of good deeds that guarantees us that the well bucket will eventually fill, and, finally, we do not have to draw again.

Mother Teresa was one of the most saintly women that ever lived. She lived her whole life to help others, a life of self denial, and complete dedication to the poor and needy. She constantly questioned her salvation. Her letters expressed her fear she was not truly saved.

Evidently, she did not have the list either, repeatedly drawing from the well, hoping the last good deed was enough to fill the bucket, and she could, at last, no longer doubt her salvation. Those who do not have the “list” will always draw from the well, over and over, all the while, doubting their salvation. If Curtis is wrong, then who is right?

    (1) Jesus Christ + Something or (2) Jesus Christ + Nothing. There is no inbetween; there is no grey area; there is only black and white. There is nowhere to run; there is nowhere to hide. Sometimes, when I doubt my salvation, I wish there were. Again, choose wisely. But I can guarantee you that, with formula (1), you will “always” doubt your salvation, just like the saintly Mother Teresa.

  30. The Bible tells us to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. If we follow this verse, then we will have to doubt our salvation, or we would not follow this verse. As for me, I do not actually doubt my salvation, so much as I doubt myself.

Faith alone believers know we can never “measure up” to the Sermon on the Mount. We are fallen humans, like filthy rags, and like Paul, the chief of sinners. With such truths, how can we not doubt ourselves?

    • Hi, William. Our salvation has zero to do with us, our sins or good works. The verse says to work out your salvation. But salvation is eternal and it must be possessed first before we can work it out. Fear and trembling refers to awe respect and terror for God, thinking about what he does to unbelievers. No possible loss of immediate eternal and irrevocable salvation is stated or implied.

    • If I may I would like to add that since we know we can never measure up to God’s standards, we trust completely in the finished work Jesus did for us.

  31. William, I have to agree that there will always be some verses that make us nervous. I have been thinking about this lately and I do not know if there is a single, unified, human system of “theology” that aligns with everything in the Bible. It would actually kinda-sorta make sense if there isn’t, because our ways and thoughts are not God’s.

I know that when I was a Calvinist, I had to bend some verses so that ALL meant the elect, the WORLD meant the elect…basically everything meant the elect. And voila, like magic the entire Bible fit perfectly into my system! But only because I twisted it to fit.

Now as a free gracer, there are still some verses I don’t understand. All I know is, the position of faith alone is what God has put in my heart now, and the thought of adding my own works to what Jesus did on the cross is devastating to me. I simply cannot go along with anything lordship salvation-related. I don’t have everything figured out in the Bible, and that’s ok. Possibly even a good thing, because it forces me to come back to it again and again, and always be dependent on God for wisdom and guidance. We can do nothing apart from the one true Vine!

      • Hello everyone – great discussion so far!

I really have to agree with William and DJ, not to mention how much I love your insight regarding Lordship Salvation. I remember reading an exposè regarding Paul Washer and Tim Conway’s “True and False Christians” video, as it was my first exposure to the theology and got me thinking if I was really saved. Cause growing up, I identified as a Christian and had a vage understanding of why Jesus died for me, but wasn’t different from the world at all. And here I am some years later, with a clearer understanding of the Gospel (which I do believe), but still fairly worldly in terms of interests, ambitions, etc. A story for another time though!

In the examination, the author mentioned that the Bible contains examples of people who willfully and continuously sinned (ie, lived in a persistent state) – Samson, King Solomon and Jonah. And from my own knowledge: the Israelites and disciples were quite often faithless, so why should we expect believers to be any better? That, in my experience, is my issue with Lordship Salvation: it complicates saving faith by adding all these requirements that ultimately speak not to what Christ did for us, but if they’re truly realities in our lives. So it’s a cruel game of introspection, not to mention how several of its adherents have this obnoxious, pharisaical complex in which they think they can call people unsaved by their lifestyles and expressed attitudes.

        Great talk and helpful insights!;)

  32. CORRUPT LEADERS ARE GOD ‘S REWARD TO A CORRUPT PEOPLE (Book of Judges in context)

Maybe this is why there is so much corruption in the pulpit.

  33. I would laugh if I did not cry. You obviously have never truly familiarized yourself with the Bible, which is common for those who think everyone else is wrong. The Gospel of Grace, which Joseph Prince takes to absurd lengths as a truly false teacher, is nothing as you purport it to be.

Perhaps even Merriam-Webster understands it better than you. GRACE noun
a : unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification
    b : a virtue coming from God
c : a state of sanctification enjoyed through divine assistance

We are saved by grace, but I am tired of the tens of millions who say they are born again and cannot even define it and who fornicate, curse, and are partial. Others are effeminate and have SSA and think nothing of it. The Bible says plainly who CANNOT enter the kingdom of heaven, and I believe Jesus more than those who truly do not understand the nature of our salvation.

LUKE 13:3 KJV “I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. – New American Standard Version (1995) I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish. – American Standard Version (1901) I say to you, It is not so: but if your hearts are not changed, you will all come to the same end. – Basic English Bible

Romans 10 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

1 John 5 and a plethora of other passages.

    • I have read the Bible 400 times (New Testament), in whole or in part, and the Old Testament, once through, and much of it over and over. I have 7 1/2 years of formal pastoral schooling. I have learned Latin (5 years) German (six years) Biblical Greek (three years) and Hebrew (very little Hebrew.)

John 316 John 647 John 336 first Corinthians 15:1-4, first John 513 Galatians chapter 1, Ephesians chapter 1, verses 13 and 14 is my position.

A lack of practical sanctification is a major fault of the free grace group, but a greater fault of the Lordship Salvation group is that they are not even saved even as they love Jesus, and clean up their lives, repent of their sins. and do good works.

you do not need saving faith in Christ to do any of these things. On the last day, they will hear Christ tell them, “Depart from Me, I never knew you!”

in that verse, Jesus talks about “the will of the Father.” do you know what the will of the Father is?

    • You are tired of the tens of millions who claim to be born again? That statement in of itself is bloated and ridiculous. . How can one person know tens of millions of people and know whether they are born again or not? How can one man know their sins? Sounds more to me like what the Almighty can do. I agree those are good definitions of grace but don’t diminish the depth of grace we are under simply because you don’t like a preacher. Paul clearly yells us we are under grace. Apparently you are not the bible scholar you profess to be because you did not read in John 3 , which is a chapter devoted solely to salvation, where Jesus tells us FOUR times, count them, FOUR times, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Now do you not think God is capable of teaching His children to walk in righteousness? Are we NOT NEW creatures in Christ? Are we NOT the righteousness of Christ seated in heavenly places? Flesh and blood doesnt inherit the Kingdom. The NEW man inside us is blameless, perfect as Jesus is. If you are a saint, you aren’t a sinner.
