No Salvation by Good Works

“Repentance is a genuine turning from sin toward God. Faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and commitment of the entire personality to Him as Lord and Saviour.“

This statement might sound good to some, but it is the damnable doctrine of salvation by your own good works.

What could be wrong with turning from your sin toward God? Nothing.

What could be wrong with committing your entire personality to Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Nothing.

It’s just that turning from your sins and committing your soul to Jesus do not save you!

This statement was under the Salvation section of the Statement of Beliefs of a church I was considering attending.

Salvation happens as a result of believing in Jesus. Believing the Gospel. Believing that Jesus does everything for us for our eternal salvation: He died on the cross for our sins, He was buried, and He rose again from the dead.

Repentance is changing your mind about unbelief.

People cannot be saved by believing in “turning from sins” and “committing their life to Christ.”

That is not the Gospel!

That is self-righteousness.
